This is my personal website, Qalibrations! I'm QalTheTwelve and collected here is everything I love, hate, do, and don't. It is all that makes me human. On this website you'll find a regularly updated blog with weekly updates, galleries of my photographic endeavors, weather-monitoring, selected poetry, music showcases, and much more. I did not create this website for anybody but myself, for the purposes of introspection, artistic expression, and the calibration of my own humanity. However, if you happened to find your way here, I hope you enjoy viewing this declaration of my existence and find something valuable in this project of passion. - Qal
In the Year of Our Lord, 2025, why make a personalized website like this? Why make it with HTML in such a barebones kind of way? The answer to both those questions is simple. Because I wanted to. I do not possess delusions of grandeur, believing that this website will be trafficked by the entire web, nor do I think that my interests, thoughts, and desires are in any way more significant to anybody else than would be a bit of dust or a dead leaf. Rather, I became frustrated with the state of the modern internet on popular social media where I found myself dragged in, kept, and serving as nothing more than a commodity, something to be bought and sold to advertisers. I found myself isolated from my fellow man in such a deep way that it genuinely pained me. While this website will almost certainly never be seen by more than a few dozen at most, I am granted far more solace in knowing that if anybody else finds their way here, they will have come across me. Not a reflection or misrepresentation of me like one would find on social media, but a genuine representation of me.
Every color choice, every photograph, every character in every word, was selected and written by me over the course of days and weeks. Everything here was made by me and brought up out of my humanity to present to myself, and to my fellow man. I am human and I want to share that humanity in a time of otherwise intense isolation and longing for community. Through this website, I can connect my mutual humanity to people across the world, and become the quintessential 21st century man. This is a rejection of all the isolation and avarice, of all the decay and contradictions the shadows of mankind’s follies have wrought on the 21st Century. Here I keep alive, at least to myself, the spirit of hope for a prosperous and bright 21st Century where interconnectivity, the pursuit of knowledge, and determination to do better reign supreme. Should you find yourself reading this, I invite you to join me in this refuge against the dark, where I maintain the fires of aspiration for all who require them. – Qal
I am a man with many interests and hobbies. I am nothing if not curious about nearly all things. Some have described me as a “Renaissance Man”, though I tend to prefer the technical term, “Giant Nerd”. In any event, since my youth I have been fascinated by geology, astronomy, history, architecture, evolutionary biology, literary criticism, music, cultural anthropology, geography, meteorology, ornithology, science fiction, archaeology, philosophy, botany, visual art, myth and folklore, chess, linguistics, cartography, physical anthropology, poetry, politics, film, numismatics, photography, religious studies, archiving, and just plain old reading, all to varying degrees of education and proficiency of course. In times past, I have kept logs that might track the weather over a period of time or journals where I wrote down interesting excerpts from books, but they have all been abandoned shortly thereafter as I felt my keeping them was without use. Similarly, their scattered nature made for a situation where it took significant effort to actually keep track of all my different investments. The hope is that through this singular website, all that captures my curiosity can be herein consolidated into a tangible whole that should enable me to maintain records of my curiosity for years to come with relatively little issue.
Finally, though what I say might sound excessively boastful or prideful, I must emphasize that I do none of this to try to impress but rather to refine my being into one who can demonstrate that they have sought knowledge, found knowledge, and comprehended knowledge. “Much learning does not teach understanding…” is how the quote is often rendered, and while I have learned much, no man is ever complete in his understanding. Thus, I must continue in these efforts and record what I have come to understand as I engage in them. Access to the different pages of this website can be found below, just follow the buttons. - Qal
